A Masterplan with a focus on recycling and sustainable travel within Dharavi, Mumbai, India.
Highlighting the need for a number of buildings of diverse scale contained within the complex urban grain of Mumbai; each building reflective of its context using a range of media including sketches and process diagrams. One building highlighting the need and requirements for waste recycling and housing workers within a safe environment. From this requirement and need a brief was formulated.
Understanding the existing conditions of Mill Buildings and suggesting improvements to the construction and structural systems by utilising a lightweight floor with punctured holes in the ceiling – holedeck. By having such a system contributed to environmental performance by reducing thermal mass in addition assisting with the cooling the building during the summer months.
