My health journey

Since I can remember health and wellbeing has always been important. From a young age I was encouraged to take up a sport. Being pushed into the deep end of a swimming pool was one of being taught how to swim. Thankfully nowadays there are more safer ways to teach kids how to swim.

A health and welling facility in Holbeck, Leeds was designed during my Part 2 degree at Leeds Beckett University.

During my teenage years playing sport was second to watching it and I became an avid Manchester United fan. My dad would encourage me to take up running, but I guess things were different, Dad originated from Kenya – running was in the blood.

It was until Dads horrific accident in 2013 after falling down a flight of stairs leaving him paralysed from chest down that I realised the important of health and fitness. I took up indoor rowing and any form of exercise to a point now where I’ve followed in Dad’s footsteps and taken up running outdoors. Building up strength and stamina takes time. Developing a mind set to keep going. Over the past few years I have ran a fair distance but now I need to do longer distances 10km, 21km etc, which will come. The plan is to run the London Marathon in 2025, quiet fittingly the 2024 was today, so I have a year to get focussed!

Unfortunately Dad passed away last month peacefully after contracting sepsis but what remains and always will be is his legacy. What that is will come clear in the months and years to come.

Love you dad, thanks for everything
