#BIM in Leicester

A total of 35 speakers from 8 different countries will be presenting. organised by Victoria Farrow

I have been invited and will be involved in explaining the role BIM has in small practice. With over 20 years of industry experience I will look at how the software has developed, superseded CAD (Computer Aided Design) and has now become the industry standard.

The software was adopted initially during the design and delivery of 7 State of the Art Learning Centres Knowsley whilst employed by Aedas Architects in 2008. Employed as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant I spent many days and nights preparing 3d concept models. Sketch up was the software to use however models could not be recycled for revised designs. Iterative models wasted time until Revit was introduced to the team. Carrying out designs quicker than previously was a game changer. I soon realised the technology had the ability to change the industry and if adopted correctly could superceed CAD. Thereafter I decided to adopt BIM in all work, academically and professionally. Having the capability I was high employable and especially during my academic years knowing BIM certainly helped.

How BIM has helped the industry create fully co - ordinated information

At the event I will show how the industry has benefitted from the adopting of BIM. I will use live examples and attempt to understand what the future holds for Architects and designer.
